Diagnostic
The rush to attribute function to the large number of newly discovered RNA species is creating significant interest in the use of NadPC for molecular diagnostic applications. Live cell assays will enable real time diagnostic applications for everything from pathogen detection and biodefence applications to reagents for image guided surgery.
Example: NadPC and Cancer Molecular Diagnostics
Generally, there is down regulation of microRNA species, or miRNAs, in tumors compared with normal tissues. The miRNA profiles reflect the developmental lineage and differentiation state of the tumors and enable successful classification of poorly differentiated tumors compared to the mRNA profiles of the same samples that are highly inaccurate. The small size of the nucleic acid targeting tags (< 20mer) support the use of NadPC for miRNA profiling in cancer diagnosis to select the most appropriate treatment.
